Virus protection software company McAfee has finalised a deal to acquire database protection business Sentrigo.

UK-based McAfee has not disclosed the sum for the deal, which will allow the company to extend its database protection portfolio, according to M & A Deals.

President of McAfee Dave DeWalt said: "The integration of Sentrigo and McAfee will provide customers with the highest level of security across their database environments."

Staff at US-based Sentrigo will work as part of the risk and compliance business at McAfee.

The news comes just weeks after McAfee was finally acquired by Intel after more than six months of discussions. The deal was closed at the beginning of March, after Intel paid $7.68 billion for the company.

CMS Wire reported that projects were now underway between the two companies, and results should be seen later in the year.

Renee James, senior VP at Intel, said: "In the past, energy-efficient performance and internet connectivity have defined computing requirements … but also brings incredibly talented people focused on delivering products and services that help make connecting to the mobile internet safer and more secure."
