Hewlett-Packard (HP) will provide infrastructure technology to utilities firm E.ON as part of a five-year, $1.4 billion (£899 million) outsourcing services contract.
HP, which already supplies technology equipment, support services and managed print services for E.ON, said the company is one of the first flagship European utilities providers to outsource its technology infrastructure.
The technology firm will provide data centre operations and workplace services for over 80,000 employees as E.ON looks to accentuate its global growth pattern, make its technology more flexible and increase its competitiveness in the market.
HP will also collaborate with some of E.ON's other IT suppliers to help the company reduce management complexity. As a consequence over 1,100 employees will transfer to HP next year.
"Utility companies need to remain stable to deliver excellent client satisfaction while adapting quickly to changing regulations and energy sources in the coming years," said Jan Zadak, senior vice president¬, enterprise business, HP.
"HP's experience in managing complex outsourcing engagements and leading the management of multi-supplier environments will enable E.ON to focus on delivering better business results and drive growth."
Recently, HP sold some of its buildings in Cupertino, California, US, to Apple.
