Californian interactive entertainment developer Activision Publishing has revealed it has acquired FreeStyleGames.
The deal will see the Leamington Spa-based video games developer become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Activision, which is best-known for the Guitar Hero franchise.
Financial terms have not been made public, but the Nasdaq-listed company confirmed that FreeStyleGames' management team will remain in place.
Mike Griffith, Activision's president and chief executive officer, said that the acquisition would help his firm to cement its place as the world's leading music-based games provider and enhance its position in the European entertainment market.
He added: "An important part of our European growth strategy is to work with local developers and provide music content that resonates with the market."
FreeStyleGames is not Activision's first raid on the UK video games industry.
In September 2007 it acquired Liverpool-based Bizarre Creations, a specialist developer responsible for multi-million selling titles like Project Gotham Racing.
