Hewlett Packard (HP) has announced the completion of its acquisition of 3Com Corporation, a provider of secure converged networking solutions, for a total enterprise value of approximately $2.7 billion (£1.7 billion).
As a result of the acquisition deal, HP will integrate 3Com's network switching, routing and security solutions with its existing HP Procurve solutions.
The expanded portfolio gained from the merger is hoped to consolidate HP's converged infrastructure strategy, which focues on integrating servers, storage, networking, management, facilities and services.
Additionally, the deal extends HP's Ethernet switching range, as well as adding new routing solutions and strengthening the company's foothold in China.
Speaking when the deal was first posited in November 2009, HP executive vice-president and general manager of enterprise servers and networking Dave Donatelli said the deal would bring "disruptive change" to the industry.
"By combining HP ProCurve offerings with 3Com's extensive set of solutions, we will enable customers to build a next-generation network infrastructure that supports customer needs from the edge of the network to the heart of the data centre," he added.
