Search giant Google has acquired Picnik, an online photo-editing service, continuing its stream of takeovers over the last few months.

Picnik integrates with photo management and sharing services such as Yahoo's Flickr, Photobucket and Facebook's facilities, as well as Google's own Picasa.

Google intends to maintain these partnerships following the acquisition, hoping to maintain and improve on the 40 million visitors Picnik receives every month.

Brian Axe, Google product management director, said that the firm will not be making any significant changes just yet, but will be working on integration and new features in the future.

"Google processes petabytes of data every day and with their worldwide infrastructure and world-class team, it is truly the best home we could have found," he said in a blog post.

"Under the Google roof we'll reach more people than ever before."

It follows Google's acquisition of On2 Technologies, a provider of video compression technology, last month.ADNFCR-1833-ID-19654054-ADNFCR
