Computer giant IBM has strengthened its Tivoli portfolio of companies with the acquisition of Intelliden, a provider of intelligent network automation software.
As around 60 per cent of network outages are caused by manual configuration errors, IBM hopes the deal, which was made for an undisclosed sum, will improve network service availability for its clients.
Al Zollar, general manager of IBM Tivoli, said that the acquisition puts the business in a position to help firms trying to manage their increasingly complex infrastructures.
"Companies are managing a virtualised computing layer that more than ever relies on the network," he added.
"Intelliden's intelligent network automation is an important addition to IBM's portfolio to extend automation across all business and IT assets."
Earlier this month, IBM announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Illinois-based Initiate Systems, which provides data integrity software for information sharing among healthcare and government organisations.
