Wireless semiconductor Broadcom Corporation has announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Teknovus, a supplier of ethernet passive optical network (EPON) chipsets and software.
Offering broadband services at up to ten gigabits per second over fibre optic cables, EPON represents around 91 per cent of fibre-to-home connections in the Asia-Pacific region, a market that Dell'Oro expects to grow to 94.5 million subscribers by 2014.
Martin Lund, senior vice-president and general manager of Broadcom Network Switching, said that Teknovus has a strong product and has established a solid reputation with Broadcom's existing customers.
"Teknovus' products will add a key element to our existing service provider offering that will enable us to better serve our customers in this segment," he added.
Broadcom is due to host presentations at the Thomas Weisel Annual Technology and Telecom Conference, the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference and Jefferies Fourth Annual Technology Conference this year.
