Computer giant IBM has announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire data integrity software firm Initiate Systems.
A privately-held company based in Chicago, Initiate Systems provides solutions for data sharing among healthcare and government organisations.
While financial terms of the deal have not been made public, the software acquisition marks IBM's 30th move of this kind in its drive to advance its capabilities in information and analytics.
Arvind Krishna, general manager of information management at IBM, said that the deal will provide its government clients with enhanced capabilities for gathering and using information.
"With the addition of Initiate's software and its industry expertise, IBM will offer clients a comprehensive solution for delivering the information they need to improve the well-being of patients at a lower cost," he added.
IBM recently signed a seven-year IT services agreement with financial services firm Jones Lang Lasalle under which IBM will provide support services across 19 countries in the EMEA.
