JDA Software Group has announced its intention to acquire i2 Technologies as part of its strategy to establish itself as an enterprise software firm focused on supply chain management.
The acquisition, which has an estimated enterprise value of $396 million (£239 million), is expected to form an entity with annual revenues of $617 million (£373 million).
Hamish Brewer, chief executive officer of JDA, said the reasons for acquiring i2 are now "even more compelling" than they were a year ago, as a result of the economic crisis focusing the market's attention on supply chain planning.
"Integrating i2's solutions and expertise will only expand our opportunity to build substantial new shareholder value over the coming years," he commented.
JDA Software recently outlined strategies manufacturing companies could use to speed their recovery from the recession, including realigning supply chains and planning for strategic expansion in emerging markets such as China and Brazil.
