Sumitomo Precision Products (SPP) has completed that acquisition of the majority of the assets of semiconductor firm Aviza Technologies.
The acquisition, which includes Aviza's single wafer process equipment subsidiary, its thermal products business and its global sales and service assets, will see the firm come under the corporate umbrella of SPP Process Technology Systems (SPTS) as it merges with Surface Technology Systems (STS).
"As we broaden our product line through this acquisition we feel all STS and Aviza customers in MEMS, compound semiconductor, advanced packaging, data storage and power device industries will benefit from more technology options," commented Susumu Kaminaga, president of SPP and chairman of SPTS.
A new business unit, to be named Thermal Products Division, will be established in the US to support Aviza's existing vertical furnace customers.
Sumitomo began as a research and development company in 1916 and has grown into a company that has collaborated with a number of organisations, including British Aerospace and Crossbow Technology.
