IT solutions provider Merge Healthcare has announced that it will acquire medical imaging software firm Confirma in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $22 million (£13.3 million).
Merge Healthcare develops solutions to automate healthcare data and diagnostic workflow, from standards-based development toolkits to sophisticated clinical applications.
Meanwhile, Confirma develops and markets CADstream, a computer-assisted detection software for MRI studies.
The acquisition of Confirma by Merge Healthcare is expected to bring the former's patented technologies into the latter's multiple market channels.
"CAD technology is still at an early adoption phase in the market for most indications but it has significant opportunity as a tool for reducing imaging costs in today's healthcare reform environment," commented Justin Dearborn, chief executive officer of Merge Healthcare.
In June, Merge Healthcare commenced an exchange offer for all of the outstanding shares of clinical trials software firm etrials, pursuant to the two firms' definitive merger announcement made in May.
