IP performance test system provider Ixia has announced that it will acquire advanced digital telecom test systems supplier Catapult Communications in a transaction valued at $105 million (£69 million).
Catapult's 3G and 4G wireless networking test solutions, which are used by Motorola, Nortel and Nokia Siemens Networks, will complement Ixia's range of systems to provide a single source solution for testing converged multiplay IP services over wireless and wireline networks.
Atul Bhatnagar, president and chief executive officer of Ixia, says the acquisition will help the firm make the transition to a world where communications technology is merging into a single, seamless delivery network.
"In addition to immediately expanding our addressable market and making us a leader in 3G and 4G wireless testing, the acquisition will help drive top and bottom line growth," he commented.
Recently Ixia announced that it has joined up with Force10 Networks to hold the world's largest ever public demonstration of 10GB Ethernet traffic switching, due to take place from May 19th to 21st at Intertrop, Las Vegas.
