Marshal8e6 has announced the acquisition of Avinti, a supplier of advanced malware detection software.
The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but it has been revealed that the Avinti team is to immediately merge with Marshal's operations.
For Marshal, the acquisition enables the firm to broaden their portfolio of security products they can offer.
In particular, Avinti software tackles the emerging problem of blended threats, which use malware content and embedded URLs to sidestep traditional anti-virus software.
The acquisition follows on from the merger of Marshal and 8e6 Technologies in November 2008.
George Shih, interim chief executive officer, Marshal8e6. "When we created Marshal8e6, we committed to providing the most effective multi-channel security solution on the market.
"With the acquisition of Avinti, we are delivering on that pledge."
Perhaps the most notorious piece of malware this year has been the Conficker worm.
Security firm Sophos has reported a new variant of the malware, although predictions of as surge in activity of the worm did not materialise as many predicted on April 1st.
