A new breed of media services firms have been created in the US following merger and acquisition activity, a report shows.
"Mega printers" have been formed in North America because of consolidations and takeovers, states PRIMIR in its study entitled Mega Printers' Impact on the North American Print Market.
The research considers what drives large-scale acquisitions, the impacts on vendor companies and overall expectations of the IT services industry.
It explains: "With the current economy, there is no doubt that the merger and consolidation activity will continue, and the few successful/profitable "mega printers" will serve as role models for the others."
PRIMIR also adds that many consolidation economies-of-scale are offset by an increase in organisational complexity, reduction in flexibility and greater competition for lower volumes.
In a related study published this month, PRIMIR said that financial and transactional printing remains a "strong viable market", despite the use of electronic bill presentment and payment.
