Ubisoft has announced the acquisition of Southlogic Studios, Brazil's oldest independent software developer.
The French gaming powerhouse made the announcement yesterday, saying Southlogic will be integrated with Ubisoft's Brazilian operations.
Southlogic was founded in 1996 and has a team of 20 developers.
It has worked on software for PCs, consoles and handhelds, last year developing Imagine: Wedding Designer on the Nintendo DS for Ubisoft.
Christine Burgess-Quemard, executive director of worldwide studios at Ubisoft, said Southlogic had "proven its agility" in adapting to new technologies.
"This acquisition reinforces our commitment to attracting talent in South America, and Brazil in particular, further boosting the group's ambitious expansion plans," she added.
Southlogic founder Christian Lykawka said he was "excited" about the takeover.
Ubisoft was founded in 1986 by the five Guillemot brothers and features titles such as Prince of Persia, Assassins Creed and the Tom Clancy franchise among its portfolio.
