Emerging markets could be ripe for merger and acquisition activities in the software sector, according to a new report.
A study by analysts Frost and Sullivan shows that although established countries such as the US and Japan are struggling, the growth of software-as-a-service is boosting up and coming countries.
Prasanna Prakash, a spokesperson for the firm, stated that rivalry in such countries will be keen in the coming years.
He said: "Competition will intensify, as more vendors start focusing on mergers and acquisitions to expand their product portfolio and increase their foothold in the market."
Vendors will also increasingly focus on after-sales services, such as maintenance and consulting, in order to gain an advantage on the opposition, Mr Prakash added.
Meanwhile, M&A magazine reports that a study by Zephyr found merger and acquisition activity in the EU fell to a 12-month low in November.
The UK was the biggest dealmaker by volume, with 214 deals going through.
