Apple is set to purchase flash storage technology manufacturer Anobit for up to $500 million (£322 million).
Talks between the IT giant and the Israeli company are in their advanced stages, according to The Calcalist and seen by Reuters.
A chip developed by Anobit is already used in Apple devices including the iPad and iPhone, suggesting the reasons why the company might be interested in the deal.
If it goes through, it will not only be Apple's first deal in Israel, but it will also be one of the company's largest ever acquisitions.
The chip enhances flash driver performance through signal processing, the news provider reported, and Apple hopes to enhance the memory volume and performance of its range of devices.
Indeed, the chip could double the memory volume of new iPads and MacBooks.
Samsung is also a customer of Anobit and the Korean company is currently beating Apple in a series of global patent lawsuits over sales of its smartphones and tablets.
