Permira is set to acquire the Genesys call centre software arm of Alcatel-Lucent for a cash sum of around $1.5 billion (£949 million), it emerged today (October 19th).
The private equity organisation is eager to expand its market share in this area and this deal will provide the Paris-based technology company with a healthy injection of cash in the wake of the global economic downturn.
However, Alcatel chief executive Ben Verwaayen has insisted his firm is only interested in selling a proportion of its operations in call centres and telecoms systems and will retain control of some of its Enterprise unit.
"Permira's intended acquisition of Genesys would enable this profitable business to flourish further. With Enterprise, we have reached the conclusion that retaining it and strengthening it further serves Alcatel-Lucent and our customers best," he added.
This comes after it was announced yesterday (October 18th) that Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC is planning to takeover US-based firm Inquisitive Minds.
