Cambridge-based chip maker ARM confirmed last week that it had acquired privately-owned US company Obsidian Software.
The two companies have a long-standing working relationship, with Obsidian Software having built advanced verification tools for the ARM architecture for many years.
ARM said it hoped the deal would drive verification strategies to match the rate of change in its high performance, complex components.
Mike Inglis, general manager and executive vice-president of ARM's processor division, said: "The technology and people that will come with this acquisition are a significant addition to our capabilities in maximising quality and reducing time to market of ARM based SoCs."
ARM, which was established in 1990, employs over 1,700 people and has design offices in France, India, Sweden and the US. It is the world's leading semiconductor IP company.
Since it was set up the company has shipped over 15 million ARM chips to destinations around the world.
